The Coming of Age of Private Credit in India

  • Why would an erstwhile equity platform want to roll out a credit strategy? This overseas trend is now showing up in India. Is this a natural fit for those that have sourcing relationships to offer either product. Is that part of the playbook?
  • There are so many vectors to decide the strategy between: geography vs sector; high vs low risk on the capital structure; choice of company's life cycle; size - small v big, etc. How do you decide which is the better opportunity, and how does that decision get made?
  • Private Credit has been in existence for over 10 years in India - what have been the learnings? Any course corrections that have been done? How different can we expect the near term? Cost of capital has come down – is there a different role for debt funds going forward? Risk vs reward solution - can't be 'solution capital' for everyone.
  • How is the Pandemic affecting your underwriting thesis? Does the risk assessment lead to a narrow strategy?
  • Fund-raising. How has the experience been raising a domestic Private Credit fund from international investors?
